About the Event
Expressive Arts Anonymous is the first endeavor in Missouri to mobilize mental wellness efforts across emergency responder groups – fire, law enforcement, EMS and dispatch through expressive arts.
This FREE workshop series hosts twice-monthly artistic expressive healing events for Saint Louis's emergency responders. Due to the highly stressful day-to-day exposure to Saint Louis violence, this population of community members struggle from high rates of suicide, depression, PTSD, and substance abuse. Our mission is to create an anonymous healing space for the community members who keep our city safe and save our citizens' lives. Not only will be offering healing expression workshops to highly trained artists and therapists, but we will also advocate to this hurting demographic the importance of self-care and the power of art as a healer.
FEBRUARY WORKSHOP INSTRUCTOR
Rhonda is a joyous free spirit who has facilitated people to return home to who they truly are for the past 18 years. Her classes, events, and teacher trainings create a space of compassion, freedom, and wondrous discovery.
After a career performing internationally as a dancer, Rhonda dived into yoga in 2000, and in 2003, was initiated into the tradition of Sri Vidya by Pandit Rajmani Tigunait of the Himalayan Institute. She is steeped in Rod Stryker’s Parayoga, conscious living with Kathlyn Hendricks, PhD, and her decades of experience teaching multiple dance techniques and creative movement. Rhonda completed certifications in ParaYoga, BodyMind Coaching, Nonviolent Communication, and Transformational Leadership. For the past year, Rhonda has immersed herself in Thomas Huebl's trauma-informed approach to mindfulness, meditation, communication and living in the marketplace.
- To create a safe and compassionate environment for participants to be present in their bodies, to connect with themselves and the group, and to engage with a sense of playfulness.
What is it?
-The workshop will utilize mindfulness, simple movement, and journaling to support participants to presence, connect, and play.
- To loosen the grip of fear and resistance, and free up energy for life to flow through, for creativity to flow through, and move in your chosen direction or purpose in life.
-Locate the body sensations related to core feelings and presence the feelings directly vs. cognitively.
-Include all feelings and inner experiences vs. resist them. -Match feelings and body sensations in simple, pleasurable movement expression: bring out what is going on inside you in a way that is friendly and easeful and pleasurable.
-Learn Yes Breath and Creative Joint Play, a simple breathing and movement process that anyone can do and which opens up flow in a pleasurable way. These practices create a feeling of union and harmony in body, breath and mind.
-Discover the relationship between experience and expression. -Understand how creative expression relates to inner experience (and past reside of inner experience / unhealed stuff) and to utilize creative expression as body empathy to create an experience of presence, love, and wholeness.
-Learn to shift from adrenalized reactivity toward empowered choice.
